Paraphrasing Notes

Hi Everyone,

It has been great meeting with you all for parent teacher conferences! Thanks for supporting your child with their education through 5th grade! Together, we can make this a successful year for our students. 🙂

In writing today, we paraphrased notes from a persuasive article on whether students should go to school 4 days or 5 days a week. We took notes and paraphrased together before they broke off into group. While in groups, we took notes through an application called TodaysMeet.

What is TodaysMeet?

TodaysMeet is the premier backchannel chat platform for classroom teachers and learners. Designed for teachers, TodaysMeet takes great care to respect the needs and privacy of students while giving educators the tools for success.

Students join fast, easy to start rooms with no sign up, and can immediately start powerful conversations that augment the traditional classroom.

Embracing the backchannel can turn it from distraction to engagement. Participants can learn from each other and share their insights, improving participation and deepening learning. TodaysMeet enables instant formative assessment feedback, and much more.

It was great and we cannot wait to do this again!

Thanks for checking in!

Ms. Gray

Give Me Liberty or Give Me Death!!!

Today in social studies we learned about the First Continental Congress and Patrick Henry’s speech “Give me Liberty or Give me Death!” Students read about both and then were split into groups and made an educreations video on what they thought Patrick Henry meant by this quote. Please see their educreation videos below.

Thanks!

Persuasive Writing/ QR codes

Hi Everyone,

We have started our persuasive writing unit! We discussed reasons as to why students should/should not be paid for good grades. Students went to different corners of the room, depending on their stance on the topic. The 4 stance’s were STRONGLY AGREE, AGREE, DISAGREE, STRONGLY DISAGREE. Students were then able to write out their stance and provide supporting evidence for their beliefs. Please see pictures below of our students ideas!

In social studies, the students participated in a QR code scavenger hunt on the Boston Tea Party. Students had to scan the code, write down the question and work together in a group to come up with the answer. They had to check with me first before moving to the next QR code. It was a lot of fun and I hope to do more of these in other subjects. It gets our students up and moving and fully engaged!
