Problem and Solution

For the last part of our realistic fiction unit, students will be learning about problem and solution.

Problem: something that is causing trouble or harm that needs to be solved.

Solution: How the problem is solved.

Students will be looking at the following pictures and responding as to what the problem and the solution is. I will be looking for correct answers but also complete sentences, spelling, and punctuation.

Finding the Theme

Hi Everyone,

Finding the theme of the story seems to be something most of us are struggling with. It is important for students to know that the theme of the story should be universal. Please see the chart below with common themes in literature.

SBAC prep

Hi Everyone,

Fourth and Fifth grade students will be practicing responding to an SBAC prompt once a month until the testing date. The passage the students read was called “Alternative Sources of Energy” which focused on wind power, solar energy, and geothermal energy. We read the passage together and took notes. We discussed how to properly write a RACE response and use SPECIFIC evidence from the text to support our answer. We then watched the video below to help us understand the text.

Head’s Up.

Hi Everyone,

In Social Studies, we have been learning lots of new vocabulary. It is important we learn learn, use, and practice using the vocabulary in our speaking to help us understand what the words mean. Learning vocabulary prior to reading a text will also help with comprehension.

Yesterday we practiced our new vocabulary words by playing the game, head up! Heads Up! is the fun  game that Ellen DeGeneres plays on her show — and now we are playing it in our classroom! Students have to guess the vocab word on their head from their classmates clues before the timer runs out!

EdPuzzle

We have started using EdPuzzle in the classroom. Ed puzzle is a wonderful website that engages students through videos. Students watch a video and answer questions that pop up during the video. If they get the answer correct, they get notified immediately. If they get it wrong, they also get a notification as to why it was wrong. The results get sent to me immediately which is extremely helpful with data. Through EdPuzzle, students are able to practice listening to a text and responding which is an important skill to have.

Please ask your child about this at home! They have their user names and passwords to log in. 🙂
